LOCAL STUDY AWARDS POLICY
Revised September 29, 1999
- The awards are called the Bulkley Valley Community Arts Council
Local Study Awards. The purpose of the awards is to broaden the availability
and accessibility of local arts education activities to residents of
the Bulkley Valley.
- Definitions
a) An arts education activity is any activity, such
as a course, workshop, or lessons, in which one or more teachers/leaders
provide arts education or training to the participants in the activity.
An arts education activity is normally considered to have a beginning
and an end. The teachers/leaders of the activity may not be the same
person/people as the participants.
b) An arts education provider is any person or group of
people who undertake to provide an educational activity. The education
provider may or may not be the teachers/leaders of the educational activity.
- Any arts education provider in the Bulkley Valley, except for an
established school, may apply to the Council in writing for funding
support for a specific arts education activity. The submission should
contain information about the prospective arts education activity,
and the expected number and level of proficiency of the participants.
The individual identities of the participants are not relevant and
should not be included. A budget for the activity must be included
along with other information pertinent to the submission.
- The Council or a designated committee will evaluate the submission
and determine the amount of the award, if any. The evaluation will
consider such factors as financial need of the participants; financial
need of the arts education provider; and the quality and characteristics
of the teachers/leaders of the activity.
- A maximum of $ 1,500.00 (total among all applicants) is available
each year.
- The Council will normally give the award following the completion
of the arts education activity. The Council may provide some or all
the award before or during the activity at its discretion.
- In cases where the Arts Council pays an education provider on behalf
of a student who cannot afford normal fees, the Arts Council will only
do so when the education provider reduces their fees by 50%. This means
the Arts Council and student will pay half and the teacher will absorb
the other half of the fees. It is the Arts Councils expectation
that the student will do what they can to help out the teacher eg:
helping the teacher with younger students, keeping rehearsal/change
rooms clean and tidy. This grant is paid directly to the teacher.
- The Council may under exceptional circumstances grant an award to
an arts education provider or for an arts education activity that would
not otherwise qualify.
